Korean “music studio” = noraebang

UPDATE: Closed in 2018. May have reopened in August 2022.

“NoRaeBang” literally means “song room” — it’s the Korean term for a karaoke studio where customers can sing to their hearts’ delight.

“Norae” means song, while “bang” means room.

Asian Americans are known to shorten it to NRB.

There are quite a number of noraebangs in Koreatown — most cater to adults over the age of 21 whose consumption of alcoholic beverages fuels not only unembarrassed singing, but also the establishments sales revenues.

There are one or two that welcome customers younger than 21 though of course drinking alcohol is strictly prohibited for those parties.
