The restaurant’s name refers to the popular area by the entrance to Hongik University in the Mapo-gu district of central Seoul. Hongdae (홍대) is an abbreviation of Hongik Daehakgyo, which is Hongik University (홍익대학교).

The space was graded by the health department as WangDaePo in 09/06/2012 and was given an A (93) rating.
