Ralphs by Wilshire & Western
Supermarket chain in the Southern California area and the largest subsidiary of Cincinnati-based Kroger. It is the oldest such chain west of the Mississippi River. Ralphs also operates stores under the Food 4 Less and Foods Co. names in California.
Ralphs has two locations in Koreatown — one on the southeast corner of 3rd & Vermont, the other on Western Avenue, just south of Wilshire Boulevard (Oxford & 7th), near the Wiltern Theater.
The Western Union window by the lottery machines used to be able to change your dollar bills into quarters, but now has an “Out of Quarters” sign. Their hours are much shorter than those of the supermarket. The window is usually open between 11:00 am to 4:00 pm, but the schedule varies. (Get quarters from the regular bank’s teller window — the Wells Fargo by the checkout lanes or the branch on Wilshire/Ardmore.)
Coffee Bean kiosk removed, as of February 2021. Replaced by a Starbucks in the spring.
Bread, eggs, over-the-counter medicines, ice cream, paper towels, toilet paper, canned beans, Taiwanese pineapple cake in the Asian section, Aisle 14.
