A 55-year-old third-grade teacher at Wilshire Park Elementary School was found bludgeoned to death in the couple’s North Hollywood home on Wednesday, January 21, 2026.

Mayra Jimenez’s husband, Andrew Jimenez, 45, a firefighter-paramedic with the Glendale Fire Department, has been charged with her murder; prosecutors allege he used an axe in the killing.

According to police, Andrew Jimenez flagged down passing officers early that morning and asked for a welfare check on his wife, then reportedly confessed at the scene. He has since been booked and formally charged with one count of murder with an allegation of personal use of a deadly weapon.

The Los Angeles Unified School District confirmed Mayra Jimenez’s employment at Wilshire Park Elementary and is providing support to students and staff.
