Taiyaki is a fish-shaped pastry that is filled with sweet red bean paste (anko) made from sweetened adzuki beans. It originated in Japan in the early 20th century as a reimagined version of the round imagawayaki cake, taking the shape of tai (red sea bream) which is considered a symbol of good luck and fortune.

Bungeoppang is the Korean version of the Japanese taiyaki.
