Madang Mall (Directory)
Opened in June 2010, MADANG is a three-level shopping and entertainment complex located just north of Wilshire Boulevard on the western side of Western Avenue, where the highly regarded Woo Lae Oak restaurant once stood.
MaDang is the Korean word for ‘yard’ or ‘garden’ — often associated with traditional Korean homes, where it serves as an open space for various activities and gatherings. Here, we can say that the MaDang is a courtyard.

Neon signs have a storied history in Los Angeles, being that it’s the entertainment capital of the world. The urban landscape of L.A. has long been adorned by neon signs, adding a vibrant and eye-catching glow to the city’s streets and businesses, including in Koreatown.
There are two buildings in Koreatown that have been officially designated by the City as historical landmarks, specifically due to the prominent electric-lit signs on their rooftops — the Brynmoor and the Embassy, upscale apartment structures built in the early 20th century.
The Brynmoor in Koreatown is an example of Beaux-Arts architecture. This architectural style is characterized by its grandiose and classical aesthetic. In Los Angeles, Beaux-Arts architecture became prominent in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, reflecting a desire for the city to establish a more sophisticated identity.
